María Segura, Deputy General Manager and Technical Director of AlgaEnergy, was invited to participate in the meeting “Women who lead the future”, organized by AseBio.
AlgaEnergy has participated in the session “Women who lead the future”, organized by the Spanish Association of Bioenterprises (AseBio) in the framework of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The meeting, whose objective was to give visibility to the work of women in an area as disruptive and as transformative as biotechnology, took place last Tuesday 11th of February, in the ‘Zone From Facebook’, in Madrid.
María Segura, Deputy General Manager and Technical Director of AlgaEnergy, was invited to participate in a panel of women working in the field of biotechnology in which the following women also participated: Carmen Vela, Former Secretary of State for Science and Innovation and founder of the Association of Women Researchers and Technologists; Rocío Arroyo, CEO of Amadix; and Eva Ortega, Director of the Biobank of the National Oncology Research Center and General Secretary of RAICEX (Association of Spanish Scientists Abroad). At the panel, moderated by Ana Polanco, President of AseBio, the speakers shared highly innovative and impactful projects and highlighted that working in the biotechnology sector means working to improve the lives of millions of people and help solve social and generational challenges.
Regarding the participation in this meeting, María Segura pointed out that “for AlgaEnergy it has been a pleasure to have been able to participate in this event to which we were invited. Our commitment to the end of the "gender gap" in science goes beyond mere discourse and we can demonstrate that effort with figures: Not only is 50% of the Management Team of AlgaEnergy women, but 63% of women in our team are dedicated to science and research, in the company itself”.
