The biotechnology company and Madrid’s Institute for Rural Research and Development, Agricultural and Food (IMIDRA) have donated a significant batch of seedlings and biostimulant products to nearly 500 farmers. The event was chaired by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid.
The crisis caused by the coronavirus COVID-19 has confirmed the prime importance of the agri-food sector and all the links in the food chain. There are many actions that are being launched, at such difficult times, to thank farmers and producers for their efforts and the sacrifices they are making to guarantee food supply to the population.
In this context, within the framework of the initiatives that the Community of Madrid is implementing within its “Plan Terra” -endowed with 100 million euros- to help the primary sector, it has donated 451,000 seedlings of different horticultural varieties, essential for food. The beneficiaries have been about 500 farmers, whose plantations are located in the region. Inspired by the generosity of IMIDRA and the Community of Madrid, AlgaEnergy has decided to join the initiative and has donated a substantial amount of its biostimulant product as a complement to improve the agricultural production of those 500 farmers. Not in vain, AlgaEnergy has collaborated with IMIDRA for the last 4 years, during which this Institute has been able to demonstrate that the microalgae products developed by AlgaEnergy provide considerable increases in agricultural yields and produce quality.
The event, which took place on the 18th of April at the facilities of Madrid’s Institute for Research and Rural, Agrarian and Food Development (IMIDRA), was chaired by the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, accompanied by the Minister of the Environment, Spatial Planning and Sustainability of the Community of Madrid, Paloma Martín Martín, the General Manager of IMIDRA, Sergio López Vaquero, and the General Manager of AlgaEnergy, Carlos Rodríguez-Villa.
On the one hand, the President of the Community of Madrid pointed out that this donation "will serve to help our farmers continue with their farmsteads and can give them a headway and have more fruitful harvests during these complex months. Thanks to their work we have been able to have basic supplies at the supermarkets during these difficult times and in addition, they have collaborated, selflessly, in the fumigation tasks in our towns and hospital facilities", added Ayuso.
On the other hand, the General Manager of AlgaEnergy, the world's leading company in the field of microalgae biotechnology and an international benchmark in the agricultural biostimulants industry, highlighted that "we are indebted to our farmers and we will support any initiative that aims to help them. Although sometimes they have not been sufficiently valued, the reality is that they are essential in order to supply food to the population. The work they are carrying out at the moment, one that is so difficult, is therefore priceless, and it is our responsibility to give them our support with an efficient product, which is already used in the world by more than a million farmers”.
